Mood Match and Change
This lighting study is about matching the lighting, mood, and camera angle from a cinematic still and altering the mood along with animating the camera motion. The stand-in models are provided by CG Trader and Turbosquid.
First Mood Match Attempt
Building a 3D replica of a shot from The Grand Budhapest Hotel, I used models from CG Trader and Turbosquid and modified textures. I matched the camera angle and focal length with my eye, and rendered in the same aspect ratio. I lit the scene with photo realism as I estimated where the lights were placed on set based on highlights and shadow directions.
Mood Change 1
I wanted to add more contrast and tension to the shot, so I used my color theory knowledge to create a complementary mood of orange and blue. The shadows and low lights in the main hallway add depth to the scene.
Mood Change 2
With the next mood change, I wanted to completely flip the feeling of the original mood. I turned it into a darker night scene by turning off the hallway lamps and cooling down the color temperature.
